What is PhoneCaption?
PhoneCaption is a service that provides call captioning for those who have difficulty hearing. When a hearing caller is speaking on the phone to a hard of hearing caller, call captions are provided via text over the internet or IP phone display.

Do I need to download any software?
Unless you are using the desktop client, there is no need to download any additional software. Captions are simply delivered to you over the internet or through an IP phone

Does PhoneCaption provide caller ID?
Yes, we do provide caller ID pass through. For example, if you get a call from someone you will receive their caller ID intead of the call center's caller ID. Similarly when you make an outbound call through PhoneCaption's service you will be sending your caller ID.

Why do you ask for my address details?
We request address details for emergency purposes so that we can provide your location to the appropriate emergency personnel if you need immediate attention. If you provide an invalid address, emergency personnel will be unable to assist you in a crisis situation. We keep your information confidential and employ safe guards to keep your information secure.

How do I make a call?
First, you must log into your account. Then, you dial the number assigned to you followed by the number you are calling. It's that simple! All the captioned text will appear on the web or on your IP phone screen.

How do I receive calls?
Ask your callers to simply dial the number assigned to you. You must be logged in to receive caption texts.

What is the cost of the call?
There is no cost for the call; the service is funded by TRS under FCC guidelines.

Can people outside the U.S. sign up for our services?
No, services are designed and paid for by Americans for Americans.

Who do I contact for customer service?

What happens if I close my browser and lose my caption?
If you close your web browser while on the phone, you will have to reopen the browser, re-login and catch up to your conversation. Your conversation will carry on securely until you hang up your call, at which point the conversation is ended.

What if I forget my password?
Under the LOG IN section on www.phonecaption.com, there is a link to click on if you've forgotten your password. Click on this and enter your email address. Your password will be emailed to your registered email shortly.

What if I forget my user ID?
Your user ID is the phone line that you registered to receive your captioned calls on. This is most likely your home phone number, mobile or office number. Enter this number without any dashes or parentheses. If you need further assistance on this matter, email support@phonecaption.com for more help.

Can I save a conversation?
You can save your conversation by selecting your text and copy/pasting it into a Word document. For privacy reasons, PhoneCaption does encourage you to notify the other caller should you choose to save your conversation.

What if I haven’t received my activation email yet?
PhoneCaption sends out activation emails automatically. Check your spam or junk mail folder to make sure it was not sent there.

Can I call 411 Directory Assistance?
For directory assistance, we suggest that you call a 10-digit number as we cannot support local 411 at this time.
